Our Video on Demand (VOD) network includes multiple synchronized networks so that viewers on the west coast are connected to servers on the west coast, viewers on the east coast are connected to servers on the east coast. Each network includes a synchronization server and streaming servers. This network topology provides for high performance by providing close proximity between the servers and clients as well as redundancy in the event of a hardware failure.

Content is uploaded to our network one time. It is then replicated to all sync servers and to the streaming servers. The synchronization servers are used to store the master content only; they are not used for streaming.

The synchronization servers have fiber gigabit ethernet connections to the WAN, and fastE connections to the LAN. At each POP, synchronization between the video streaming servers is done on fastE connections to the LAN using private address space. Therefore there is no charge for bandwidth transfer between the servers at each data center, or POP.
