Encoding Workstation
A new workstation will be installed at the hotle/event center to be used for encoding the video streams. The encoder workstation will have two NICs. One NIC will be connected to the existing hotel/business center LAN. The second NIC will be connected to the new business class DSL hub.
The encoder workstation will have either Windows XP Pro or Windows Media Center 2005 operating system.
as well as a TV tuner card, such as a Hauppauge 500. The A/V cabling will be connected to the TV tuner card with coax, S-Video, or three RCA jacks.
Hotel/Event Center Client Schedules Broadcast
The hotel or event center client uses the existing server to schedule a broadcast event, or signs up on the web server. At the time they sign up they will estimate the event date, event duration, and estimated quantity of off-site viewers. The client will also specify whether to limit the total quantity of streams provided to off-site viewers, or to provide unlimited quantity of streams.
Next, the client will estimate geographic location of off-site viewers. (North America, east coast US, west coast US, Europe, Asia, etc.)
Finally, they will then specify method of connecting the camera to the encoding workstation, or LAN:
- Utilize A/V cabling from camera to encoding workstation
- Use laptop with wireless connection to hotel hotspot
- Use laptop with ethernet connection to hotel LAN
Hotel/Event Center Charges Client a Deposit
The hotel or event center charges the client a deposit based on setup, estimated quantity of off-site viewers and event duration. It is suggested that there be 'packages' of 50, 100, 200, etc., off-site viewers.
Hotel/Event Center Charges Client a Deposit
The hotel or event center sends an event notice to Totalstream. Totalstream creates an event folder on their streaming video servers management platform and on their web servers.
Event Preparation
Totalstream provides client a set of username/passwords, or tokens, to be used for the event. In addition, Totalstream will coordinate with hotel or event center A/V department as necessary for camera setup and cabling.
Program Encoder Workstation
On the day(s) of the event, Totalstream will program the hotel or event centers encoder workstation to encode the video stream, and to send at least two streams to the appropriate video streaming servers. The stream will go out the dedicated business DSL connection to ensure streaming quality. Generally the stream will be encoded at 400 kbps, thus a minimum of 800 kbps upstream will be required per streaming event.
Program Servers
Totalstream will program the appropriate video streaming servers to mirror the encoded stream to the estimated quantity of off-site viewers, with at least one stand-by server. The video streaming servers will be programmed to provide 190, 280, and 400 kbps streams unless specified otherwise by the client.
On the day(s) of the event, Totalstream will set up a link on their web servers for the off-site viewers to click on to start the video download. The hotel/event center may elect to use frames to display the web page on their web site also.
Launch Event
On the day(s) of the event, the off-site viewers will browse to the URL provided for the event, and when prompted, provide the username/passwords, or tokens, to be used for the event. That link will open a Windows Media Player on their computer that will then display the video stream.
Customer Support
Totalstream will provide customer support to off-site viewers via email during the event; and will provide customer support via phone to the hotel/event center and end-use client.
Totalstream will also have a 'test' page on their website that off-site viewers can go to prior to the event to test their application software.
To ensure streaming quality, Totalstream will provide off-site monitoring throughout the entire event.
End of Event
At the conclusion of the event, Totalstream will provide the hotel/event center and the client with a streaming report, and notify the event center of any issues, additional charges, or chargebacks.
The hotel/event center will then process the final invoice to the client and pay Totalstream the appropriate percentage of the total revenue at the end of the month.
